The Beginning

Where it all started

Chef James Scott Jr. grew up in Decatur, Georgia. And if you ask him how he got into cooking,

he'll tell you it started with chitlins.

Not a culinary school. Not a fancy restaurant. A family gathering, a crowded kitchen, and his mom, his aunt, and his grandma running the whole thing. Most of his cousins were in the other room playing video games. James was in the kitchen — not because anybody made him, but because that's where he wanted to be. Helping out, watching, learning.

"Cleaning chitlins like it was the best job in the world."

That's where the love came from. Not from a textbook or a technique — from watching the people he loved feed the people they loved. And that connection never left him.

When James decided to take his first love seriously, he went all in. He enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in Atlanta — one of the most respected culinary programs in the world — and came out with a foundation that most chefs spend years trying to build on their own.

From there he put himself in the rooms where the best work was being done. Ecco. Leon's Full Service. Iberian Pig. Three of Atlanta's most respected kitchens, each one teaching him something the classroom couldn't. How a real kitchen moves. How a great plate gets made under pressure. What it means to cook at a level where people actually notice.

It worked. He climbed. Executive Chef. Chef de Cuisine. The kind of titles that take most people a decade to earn. By every measure that the restaurant world uses to keep score, James was winning.

The Pivot

The decision that changed everything

He had the titles. He had the kitchens. But to him cooking was more than that.

The restaurants were great and serious. But somewhere in the middle of all of it, the thing that started in that crowded kitchen in Decatur — the connection, the people, the reason food actually matters — was getting harder to find.

He thought about a food truck. Considered a few different paths. Then he landed on the one that made the most sense for who he actually was. Not a restaurant. Not a truck. A traveling chef — bringing the full experience directly to the people, the table, the occasion.

No middleman. No reservation system. No dining room that belongs to someone else. Just Chef James, the food, and the people he's cooking for.

That's The Experience. That's Street Provisions.

Street Provisions

The decision that became

Since launching Street Provisions, Chef James has brought his craft to hundreds of tables across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and beyond. Private dinners, catering events, pop up experiences, drop off orders — every one of them an extension of the same idea that started in that Decatur kitchen.

The business has grown. The reputation has followed. But the approach has never changed — every event is personal, every menu is built from scratch, and every guest deserves the same standard regardless of the occasion or the guest count.

This is what happens when someone builds something around what they actually believe in.

The Mission

Beyond the table

Street Provisions was never just about the food. From the beginning Chef James understood that a table is more than a place to eat — it's a place to belong. That belief shows up in every event he does. It also shows up in the work he and his wife Catelin do beyond it.
